Our reporter| Embattled national chairman of the main Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu on Friday denied collecting N1 billion from anyone as claimed by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
He also warned aggrieved persons to leave his family out of the controversy.
Ayu, who debunked governor Wike’s Friday claim that he is a corrupt party leader, also promised to make available to party members statement of account of the party soon.
The PDP National Chairman said as the father of the party he decided to be quiet for peace to reign and appealed to all aggrieved members of the party to leave his family out.
“I felt I should encourage reconciliation. But where it touches on my integrity, which even my own family members are brought into play.
“I appeal to aggrieved people to desist from trying to malign my character or bringing my family into party affairs.
” I never collected 1 billion from anybody. And the 100 million that was donated by one of the governors was judiciously used for the purpose that it was given”.
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state had during a media chat on Friday in Port Harcourt said the children of Ayu will disown him if his antics in the party are revealed.
He also alleged that the PDP national chairman received N100 million bribe from a sitting governor.
“In fact, let me also tell you, Ayu collected N100 million from a governor,” Wike said.
“If not for the love of this party, if we release what we have, Ayu’s children will go to him and say we are no longer your children.”
When asked why Ayu has not been prosecuted by the party, Wike said the national chairman cannot be charged unless he steps down.
“Who is going to prosecute you? Who is the chairman of the party? he asked.
The new revelations come days after Wike described Ayu as “very corrupt”.
