Ebun Francis || The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu on Wednesday said the anti-graft agency will not back down from arresting and prosecuting Ita Ekpeyong, former director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), and Ayo Oke, former head of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
Magu who spoke to state house correspondents after the inauguration of the committee to audit recovered loot by President Muhammadu Buhari said the law must take its course.
According to him, the anti-graft agency had concrete evidence against both men.
Magu said, “We are not discouraged at all. The law must take its course; nobody is above the law.”
“There must be reasons, strong reasons before we go for arrest.”
Probed by reporters if he was discouraged by the behavior of the DSS, Magu said, “Never! Never! I’m not discouraged but rather energised to do more. I am telling you, nobody is above the law.”
Movement of vehicle traffic was disrupted Tuesday following the refusal of DSS operatives attached to both Ekpenyong and Oke to allow EFFC operatives to arrest both men.
While Ekpeyong is being sought after for his alleged role in the arms scam involving Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA), Oke’s travail is in connection with the $43 million discovered in an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos.
