A mathematics teacher in Enugu State has killed his 83-year-old uncle over a piece of land.
The murder suspect, identified as Daniel Ekemezie, was a teacher at Ukpata Community Secondary School in Uzouwani Local Government. Ekemezie was recently widowed when his wife died, leaving him to cater to their two children.
Ekemezie was said to have committed the heinous act on March 4 when he visited his uncle’s residence. He allegedly tied his uncle by the mouth after waking him up from sleep and led him to a bush where he tied him to a tree and left him there.
Ekemezie recounted to the police that he later found his uncle dead, still tied to the tree, on March 8 after which he buried him in a shallow grave.
Police officers, who acted on a tip-off, promptly arrested Ekemezie on learning about the dispute with his uncle.
Ekemezie confessed to the murder and apologized to the deceased family when he was arrested.
“I want to tell people to distance themselves from any issue of dragging of lands because it can lead to loss of lives and properties. I want the son of late Pa Patrick odoh to forgive me and even take the land. I am ready to leave the land for them. I am regretting my action now.I recently lost my wife and I am left alone with my two kids.God please help me.
