Everest Ezeihe || In its effort to eradicate the state of hoodlums and criminal activities, the Imo State Police Command has arrested and paraded a sixteen-year-old, Onyedikachi Iyaka a suspected arms dealer syndicate who supplied arms to the gang that killed Rev Father Cyriacus Onunkwo and other criminal gangs in the state.
Mr. Chris Ejike, the state Commissioner of Police disclosed this on Monday at the State Police Command’s Headquarter Parade Ground while addressing journalists on the giant strides achievement of his command in curbing crime and criminal activities recently.
Ejike said that the suspect hails from Umuchokwu Ukwu village in Ehime Mbano council area of the state displaying the items recovered from the suspect to include 400 rounds of chained GPMG live ammunition, 1,016 rounds of AK47 live ammunition, one AK47 empty magazine, one K2 empty magazine, one Army camouflage bullet proof vest and one police bullet proof vest.
Others include one blue police raincoat, one green barrette cap, and one empty ammunition box.
He pointed out that the operatives of the command special Anti Robbery Squad arrested the suspect at a private residence in Egbelu Awaka in Owerri North LGA of Imo State, following a tip-off.
The Commissioner of Police informed that the items were recovered when a search was conducted in the House of the suspect insisting that the quantum and caliber of exhibits recovered underscores the need for community vigilance, surveillance and strategic information flow.
Other suspects paraded are Mr. Kingsley Alaukwu, 25 years old of Umuoso Mgbushi in Ohaji Egbema for allegedly kidnapped and murdered 67year old Mr. Gabriel Alaukwu and Iniobong Sunday. The above victims were said to have been kidnapped at Nkaraha in Ohaji Egbema Council area of Imo State by the suspect and his gang and buried at shallow grave after collecting N100,000 ransom from them.
The Commissioner also informed that the suspect who in company of two others, that is Messrs Ugochukwu Ekezie and Emeka Onuegbu who are now at large and have been declared wanted by the police.
Also arrested and paraded is 26-year-old Mallam Kabiru Garba of Gumel in Jigawa State who kidnapped Messrs Tochukwu Okeke and Ekemezie Okeke all of Mbaitoli Council area of Imo State with one locally made pistol and equally made away with the victim’s telephone handsets and necklace which was recovered at Ama Hausa Owerri with the victims.
