An explosion in St. Petersburg, Russia has killed 10 people.
The explosion rocked the Sennaya Ploshchad Metro Station, an underground station, a couple of hours after noon on Monday April 3, 2017, according to a Russian newspaper.
The explosion was said to have been caused by a shrapnel device in a briefcase left by a passenger. Another unexploded briefcase was also found on the carriage.
Images from the scene of the explosion showed a metro train with one set of its doors blown out and several people about with injuries.
The number of injured persons at the scene of the blast is reported to be about 50, with casualty figure expected to increase.
Vladmir Putin, Russia’s President, was reported to be in St. Petersburg, Russia’s second largest city, at the time of the explosion to meet with his counterpart from Belarus.
