Nigeria confirms 796 new COVID-19 cases as experts fear second wave of pandemic

Chidi Samuel| Nigeria on Friday confirmed 796 new cases of #COVID19 as the country’s caseload crossed the 72,000 mark.

The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control in a statement via its verified Twitter handle late on Friday night said the new cases were reported in sixteen states and the FCT.

According to the update, the FCT recorded 258 new infections, the highest for the day, followed by Lagos-248, Kaduna-117, and Katsina-52.

Other states with new infections include, Ogun-27, Kwara-23, Gombe-22, Adamawa-17, Plateau-15, Kano-6, Rivers-2, Ondo-2, Ekiti-2, Nasarawa-2, Sokoto-2, and Taraba-1.

The NCDC further revealed that so far, Nigeria has72,140 confirmed cases of the highly contagious disease, with 65,722 persons discharged, and 1,190 deaths recorded.
