Nigerian historical drama, ’76, won three awards from its eight nominations at the 13th edition of the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), held at the EKO Hotel and Suites on Saturday.
The Izu Ojukwu-directed movie came up tops in best production design, achievement in production and Lagos state award for best Nigerian film.
Nigeria movies won nine awards, inclusive of the special recognition honour given to veteran comic-actor Nkem Owoh.
However, the night belonged to the Senegalese movie Felicite. The flick about a night club singer who struggled to pay for her son’s treatment after a road accident scooped three of the five major awards at the event.
It won best film, best actress in a leading role, and best supporting actor.
