Prof. Wole Soyinka, says he will hold a private funeral on January 20 when United States President-elect, Donald Trump, is inaugurated as President.
The widely respected nobel laureate, who spoke at a media parley at the freedom park, Lagos on Monday, however explained that the funeral is not to mourn with the citizens of the US over their choice of president but to mourn the death of Nigeria’s common sense.
“Our common sense is totally lost. I am embarrassed sometimes that I occupy the same nation space with imbeciles and morons,” he said while reacting to the decision of Nigerians to question his his decision to destroy his US green card.
According to him, Nigerians did not have the right to query his personal decision to tear his US green card.
It will be recalled that Soyinka had in the cause of the Us presidential campaign between the republican Donald Trump and the Democrats Hilary Clinton threatened to destroy his green card if the former won. A threat he eventually carried out last week following the victory of Mr Trump at the November 8th presidential elections.
