Northern Elders Pledge Loyalty To Osinbajo

Chidi Samuel || The Northern Elders Forum Thursday threw their support and loyalty behind Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s acting President.

The forum which also supported the unity of the Country made their position known at the end of their meeting in Kano through its Deputy Chairman, Mr. Paul Unongo.

The forum urged the Acting President to ignore rumours that may distract him from performing his functions and urged all northerners to throw their support behind Prof Osinbajo.

In a communique, the forum issued at the end of its two-day emergency meeting and signed by Prof. Ango Abdullahi and Mr. Paul Unongo, leader and deputy leader, respectively, the forum urged Prof Osinbajo to ignore ”mischief elements”, who want to take advantage of President Buhari’s absence to advance personal goals.

The communique read, “The forum expresses its full support for Acting President Osinbajo and urges him to exercise responsibility, as he did in the past, with commitment, sensitivity, and respect for the constitution.”

“We urge him to ignore mischief which seeks to pitch him against the president or the Nigerian people whose mandates they both exercise.”

The forum also praised President Buhari for having the courage and the political will to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency in the north-east.

“Buhari has confronted the issue that has been disturbing us by tackling the insurgency which had caused a lot of havoc in the region especially the three states of Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa,” the communique read.

The forum, among other resolutions, expressed concern about the politics in the northern states and its attendant consequences in the development of the region
