The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin on Friday upheld the election of Mr. Godwin Obaseki as the duly elected Governor of Edo State.
The ruling is in line with that of the lower court which had earlier affirmed Obaseki’s election earlier in the year.
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Eze Iyamu is challenging Obaseki’s election at the polls held in September last year.
The President of the panel, Monica Dongba-Mensenl, said that the appeal lacked merit because the election could not be invalidated on the allegation that the judges at the tribunal compromised their duties.
She equally dismissed claims that the PDP and its candidates were not given ample time to carry out their vote recount, which exceeded the 14 days allowed by law.
The case is expected to move to the supreme court.
