The Abia State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the death of a cop when suspected hoodlums attacked a police station at Abayi Osisioma Location Government Area, near Aba.
Police Public Relations Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna who confirmed the attack, said the attackers also recorded some casualties.
According to the PPRO, the attackers stormed the station around 2:00 am on Tuesday and set the entire place on fire after killing one of the police personnel on duty.
An unspecified number of vehicles parked at the station were also set ablaze by the invaders whose identities are yet to be ascertained.
The Police Spokesman said investigations into the incident had commended with a view to apprehending the perpetrators.
Recall that another police station was also in a similar fashion set on fire at Omoba in Isialangwa South Local Government Area in early January.
Meanwhile, Abia State Government has strongly condemned the attack describing it as “mindless and cowardly”.
The Government, in a statement by Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi, promised N1 million reward for any credible information that could lead to the arrest of the Invaders.
The government also announced an immediate ban on tricycle and motorcycle operations between 7:00 pm and 7:00 am in all major cities throughout the state.
