The National Electoral Commission( INEC) has declared Osinachukwu Ideozu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Rivers West Senatorial held on Saturday. He defeated  Otelemaba Amachree, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress by polling 107,166 votes as against 48,898 votes by Amachree. With the result, the PDP has won two of the three senatorial seats contested in last Saturday’s  rerun election.

INEC had earlier declared George Sekibo of the PDP  winner of the Rivers East senatorial district, while Rivers South East senatorial district was won by APC candidate, Mr. Magnus Abe.

The rerun election conducted by INEC in the state was marred by widespread violence across the state, a situation that that lead to the killing of several people including that of a DSP and his Orderly. INEC was therefore forced to reschedule the state legislative rerun poll in some parts of Etche Local Government Area, for Wednesday, following cases of violence which hindered the exercise there on Saturday.

Saturday’s rerun polls is the second time that the electoral body is conducting legislative election in some Local Government Areas in the state, but violence marred polls again.
