Peter Obi emerges NDC presidential candidate, selects Kwankwaso as running mate

Labour Party presidential candidate in the last general election, Peter Obi has emerged as the Nigerian Democratic Party (NDC) presidential candidate and selected former Kano governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Obi was elected the party’s presidential candidate on Saturday during the party primary election, which was held in Abuja.

“It is with deep humility that I accept the role of presidential candidate for our party,” Mr Obi said in his acceptance speech shortly after his emergence as the party’s presidential flag bearer.

The former Anambra governor also announced his running mate in his acceptance speech.

“I hereby accept my affirmation and nominate Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso @KwankwasoRM as my Vice President,” Obi said.

At the event, Obi was handed the party’s flag by former Bayelsa governor Seriake Dickson, the National Chairman of NDC.

The former Anambra governor reeled out his plans for Nigeria, ranging from uniting the country, securing property and lives, education, agricultural development to tackling hunger, rule of law among others.
