Alkali Mohammed, a deputy superintendent of police was believed beheaded by suspected political thugs in the omoku area of Rivers State during Saturday’s rerun election. He was killed with his Orderly. Three police officers escaped the attack while five other officers have been declared missing.
CLEEN Foundation, an election monitoring group first reported the incident and called on the Inspector General of Police to investigate the killing of the DSP and other individuals during the Rivers election Re-run in its report.
The report stated in part, “We call on the Inspector General of Police to investigate all cases of voter harassments and intimidation during the elections, especially the alleged shooting to death of Mr. Mbari John MeeBari, killing of DSP Alkali Mohammed and his orderly who was beheaded during an ambush at Omoku, Onelga LGA.”
The killing of the DSP and his orderly has also been confirmed by the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt ,Rivers state. Abdulkareem Kasim, the commander of the 6th division, Nigerian Army Port Harcourt while confirming the sad incident, said the killers of the DSP laid ambush for them while they were on election monitoring duty. According to him while three of the attacked officers escaped, five other officers are still missing.
The police authorities, however, are yet to officially announce the killing of the officers.
