Chidi Samuel || Over two years after losing the Presidency in the last general election, Nigeria’s immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan, has taken personal responsibility for the loss power by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former President in a moment of candour said he should be blamed for his party’s loss in 2015.
He said it was his responsibility to ensure that the PDP rose again as a strong political platform to win the next elections.
Jonathan made the remark when Chief Olabode George, one of the aspirants for the vacant Chairmanship position of the PDP paid him a visit at his country home in Otueke, Bayelsa State, South-South Nigeria.
The first Nigerian President from a minority group informed his guests that it has become his priority “to ensure that the Peoples Democratic Party regains the Presidency in 2019.”
He said, “Whether I like it or not, I must take responsibility for the defeat because I led the party to the election.
“The only thing that will make me sleep well is to ensure that the PDP comes back to power.”
Jonathan assured George and his team that he was working with other stakeholders to ensure that the party was well organised to wrestle power back from the ruling APC in 2019.
