The Rivers State election tribunal on Thursday sacked Senator George Sekibo of the Peoples Democratic Party, representing Rivers East Senatorial District in the National Assembly and declared Mr. Andrew Uchendu of the All Peoples Congress (APC) as the duly elected candidate.
The tribunal also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to withdraw Sekibo’s certificate of return and issue a fresh certificate to Uchendu.
The tribunal said its decision was based on the fact the Andrew Uchendu, the APC candidate won the election in question.
Uchendu had approached the tribunal with a petition asking the court to declare him the winner of the poll, alleging that INEC failed to take into cognisance the results of some wards and polling units before declaring Sekibo the winner of the polls.
The Tribunal hinged its decision on substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act and INEC.
