Senate Presidency: I will not step down for Lawan- Ndume

Senator Ali Ndume on Thursday said he will not step down for the front runner for the 9th Senate plum job, Senator Ahmed Lawan and will contest on the floor of the Senate on June 11 for the Senate presidency.

The Senator representing Bornu south district in the national assembly also dismissed media report that he was invited alonside Danjuma Goje by President Buhari to the villa to disuade them from contesting for the Senate presidency.

Ndume who spoke to Journalists following the withdrawal of Senator Danjuma Goje from the race, said he had no reason to visit President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in order to step down for Senator Ahmad Lawan.

Ndume said, “Nobody has invited me to the Villa. There won’t be cause for it. My quest to contest the Senate President election Insha Allah on Tuesday next week stands.”

If the Bornu state Senator and former majority leader in the Senate sticks to his gun, he will contest the Senate presidency with Senator Ahmed Lawan, the official candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
