Shehu Sani asks Buhari to fix economy, insecurity

Senator Shehu Sani on Friday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to fix the nation’s security and economic challenges.

The former lawmaker who appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today, said the spate of attacks in parts of the country can be handled as terrorism affects other countries of the world.

Sani said, “From the report which we have heard from the killings till going on, even the personnel of the army were even affected.

“We can still say that President Muhammadu Buhari has two major challenges before him – the economy and security.

“The President still has a lot to do. The earlier he does it, the better. Going for town halls, the meeting has not provided the right result.”

When asked if the killings in Nigeria as claimed by Professor Wole Soyinka are beyond the nation’s capacity to handle, Shehu Sani said he believes the security apparatus can effectively contain the threats raging from kidnapping, banditry, terrorism among others.

He, however, wants the Federal Government to collaborate with neighbouring Cameroon, Niger, and Chad who also have a share of insurgency.

“These are things that can still be tackled because we are not isolated from the problem as a nation. Our neighbours too – Niger, Chad and Cameroon Republic are also facing the same problem.

The former Kaduna lawmaker also decried the situation whereby efforts geared towards tackling Boko Haram activities seem not to have yielded the desired results.

He lamented that terrorism in Nigeria has entered its tenth year with the war against banditry in its fifth year.
