Six new cases of Monkeypox recorded across the country

Ebun Francis || Six new suspected cases of the strange but dreaded disease, monkeypox have been reported in several states across the country.

The Hon Minister of State for Health, Osagie Ehanire confirmed the development in Abuja on Friday.

He said that apart from the federal capital territory Abuja, there were two new cases in Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa States and one in Enugu.

The Minister said that the new cases are currently being handled by qualified public health officers and are receiving adequate clinical care.

Ehanire also explained the federal government through the ministry of health are monitoring developments and case history of the affected individuals through the disease control office at various levels of government.

He further stated that Health Commissioners in the 36 states of the federation had been asked to place on standby all health facilities, disease surveillance and notification officers on alert, to monitor early detection, reporting, and management of detected cases.

While noting that there now nine confirmed cases of the disease in the country, the Minister, however, said that no death has been recorded from any of the confirmed cases.
