( Updated) Court remands Sule Lamido in prison for incitement

 Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa state arraigned Tuesday before a Magistrate court in Dautse by the Police for allegedly making inciting statements against the state and Country has been remanded in prison till may 4, 2017. 

Chief Magistrate Muhammad Lamin refused the accused bail and adjourned the case till May 4, for the continuation of the case.

Lamido is standing trial on a four-count charge of inciting public disturbance, defamation of character, criminal intimidation and disturbance of public peace.

The offences contravened sections 113, 114, 392 and 394 of the Penal Code.

His counsel Yakubu Ruba and Felix Jones said that the offences were bailable and wondered why the court did not grant the accused bail.

The former Governor and stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) was arrested in Kano on Sunday by the police.

His arrest followed a petition by the Jigawa state government alleging that he was inciting citizens of the state to disrupt the forthcoming local government election.
