Sule Lamido, Jigawa Ex Governor granted bail

Alhaji Sule Lamido, the former Governor ok Jigawa state arrested on Sunday and charged with incitement by the police has been granted bail by a Magistrate Court in Dutse, the State capital.

Ikenna Ekpunobi, the Prosecuting counsel had earlier argued against granting the former governor bail on the grounds that it will jeopardise public peace.

But Felix John, counsel to Lamido countered the prosecutor’s argument and argued that the case against his client was documentary and as such, there is no witness to influence. He also stated that as a former governor of the state, Alhaji Lamido could not jump bail.

The trial Magistrate, Muhammad Lamin sided with the defence counsel and granted the former governor bail.

” (There is) no evidence before the court that if the accused person his granted bail he will jump bail and no evidence other people will commit similar offense and that the accused will jeopardise peace of the state,” he said.

Alhaji Lamido was arrested on Sunday at his home in Kano by the police for incitement and subsequently charged on Tuesday.
