A freshman at the University of Lagos has committed suicide as a result of a shaming incident by her roommates.
The Employee Relations and Human Resources Management student, identified as Ariyibi Ayomide, was accused of stealing items that included makeup kits and clothes. Her roommates were said to have called her all sorts of names, which encouraged students from other hostels to join in the shaming.
The victim went home shortly after and reportedly drank ‘Sniper’, a pest control chemical, promptly taking her life.
A student of the same university narrated the incident on her Facebook page, which is captured below:
The corpse of Allwell Orji, the 35-year-old medical doctor who committed suicide by jumping into the Lagos Lagoon, has not yet been found.
Family members of the late doctor were, on Tuesday, invited to identify a corpse recovered by the Marine Police from the Lagos Lagoon but discovered the body was not that of the late doctor.
Adesina Tiamiyu, LASEMA General Manager, said that the agency’s officials will continue the search for his corpse.
“Some of the family members came to the office of the Marine Police with the driver and they confirmed that the corpse we found was not that of Dr. Orji. They said the clothes on the body were not the ones worn by the doctor that day.”
The search for the doctor’s corpse, however, continues as the family members, eager to recover the late doctor’s remains for burial, were told to remain calm.
Prior to his death, Orji worked as a medical doctor at the Mount Sinai Hospital, Papa Ajao, Mushin, Lagos. He was on his way to Lagos Island on Sunday when he told his driver to stop the car on the Third Mainland Bridge just after he received a phone call.
Orji, however, alighted from the car, went for the railings on the bridge and jumped to the lagoon and to his death.
