Taiwo Obasanjo, wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, filed a suit at an Ikeja High Court on Monday seeking to stop the wedding of her son, Olujonwo Obasanjo.
The wedding is scheduled for May 11 but Mrs. Obasanjo is asking the court to cancel that date and reschedule for after June 1.
Her grounds for seeking the court injunction to stop the wedding includes the fact that she was not properly consulted and included in the programme planning as well as a “message” from a spiritualist instructing that the son should not be involved in an elaborate wedding before his next birthday.
Both her husband, ex-President Obasanjo and the father of the bride, Sir Kessington Adebutu, promoter of Premier Lotto known as “Baba Ijebu” are respondents in the suit.
Mrs. Obasanjo is specifically seeking permission from the court to postpone the wedding until a date after June 1.
The son, Olujonwo, and his fiancé, Tope, had their formal introduction on December 17, 2016 in an elaborate fashion. The mother is, however, bothered by a prophecy she received from a spiritualist that her son, who turns 34 on June 1, must not be involved in an elaborate celebration before his birthday.
The mother of the groom also said in her suit that she was excluded from the preparation for the wedding and as the mother, she has inalienable rights to be part of the process and planning.
Mrs. Obasanjo wants the court to instruct her husband and Sir Adebutu to postpone the wedding until adate later than June 1.
Justice Lateefat Okunnu of the Ikeja High Court has fixed April 10 for the hearing of the suit.
