Trader arraigned for allegedly defiling neighbour’s 8-year-old daughter

A trader, Victor Edet, 32, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos  for allegedly defiling  an eight -year-old girl

The accused, who lives in Okokomaiko area, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for defilement.

The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Inuoha, told the court that the offence was committed at the accused’s residence.

Inuoha said that the accused invited his victim, who happened to be his neighbour ‘s daughter, into his room.

“The accused was caught inserting his finger into the victim’s vagina,” he said.

The offence contravened Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The chief magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, granted the accused to a bail of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case to Feb. 13 for mention.
