By our reporter| Despite its continued denial that its soldiers were not involved in Tuesday’s shooting of unarmed #EndSars protesters at the Lekki tollgate on Tuesday night, video evidence clearly showed that soldiers were at the scene of the incident and actually shot at the protesters.
Nigerian Army headquarters on Wednesday once again denied various media reports that its soldiers were deployed to Lekki tollgate on Tuesday evening.
But videos emerging from the scene of Tuesday night’s shootings proves otherwise.
But the army labelled several reports linking soldiers at the tollgate as ‘fake news’ in a series of tweets on its official handle: @HQNigerianArmy.
The labels included: “No soldiers were at the scene”, “False and misleading”, “Fake news” among others.
The defence headquarters, meanwhile, said it has arrested Lance Corporal Harrison Friday who went on social media to urge his colleagues not to attack #EndSARS protesters.
The video uploaded last week showed Friday ina mask, urging his colleagues to support the protesters who he said were fighting for a better Nigeria.
But in a Tweet on Wednesday, the army said the corporal was arrested for cybercrime.
The tweet read, “The hooded soldier hiding behind the mask to commit cybercrimes has been apprehended in the ongoing cyber operations in support of crocodile smiles. Rest assured cybercriminals have no hiding place.”
