The abductors of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, former Director of Defence Information, and his wife released a video on Saturday showing the couple in captivity.
The couple were abducted along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, near Zakin Baure village last weekend.
Alabingo.com had earlier reported that a bandit leader linked to the abduction of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar Batsari and his wife reportedly demanded a prisoner exchange for their release.
Security and community sources said the suspected gang leader, identified as Kachallah Muhammad, made contact shortly after the abduction through intermediaries to communicate the group’s demands.
Instead of a cash ransom, the group is insisting on the release of detained associates held by security agencies as a condition for freeing the abducted couple.

Sources further indicated that the retired general was allowed to speak briefly during the communication and confirmed that he and his wife were in stable condition.
