Nigeria’s are outraged by the conduct of Senator Elisha Abbo, who was caught on camera physically assaulting a woman at an adult toy shop in Abuja and have called for his arrest.
According to a video recording of the incident published on Tuesday by PT, Abbo, the youngest Nigeria Senator, representing Adamawa North Senatorial District on the platform of the opposition PDP, is seen assaulting a young woman after she pleaded with him not to physically assault the shopowner whom the senator had accused of insulting him.
Abbo claimed the shopowner called him a drunk.
The attack which happened as an armed mobile police officer looked on, was reported on May 14 at the Maitama Area Command Headquarters on Nile Street, but the police told the victim to go look for Senator Abbo’s telephone number or they would not be able to do anything about it.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Keyamo said the case is “straightforward” and that there is enough evidence for prosecution.
Keyamo tweeted, “The case of Senator Abbo is straightforward. The Police Must IMMEDIATELY take three steps. 1) Arrest him (no formal complaint is needed with the evidence on tape. 2) Obtain his statement (if he is willing to make one and that of the victim. 3) Arraign him in court.”
Another aide of President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie, also called for the arrest and prosecution of Abbo.
She tweeted, ”Serving Nigerian Senator Elisha Abbo assaults a female staff in an Adult toy shop with a Police officer watching”.
”What I dont understand is why Nigerians are calling on him to step down. How does stepping down help? We should be calling on d @PoliceNG to arrest and prosecute him”.
