Why we killed the father of ex-Plateau governor, Dariye after collecting 10m ransom – Suspects

By our reporter/ The Police Command in Abuja on Wednesday arrested and paraded the killers of Pa Defwan Dariye, the father of former governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye currently serving time in jail for corruption.

Force Spokesman, CP Frank Mba who made the disclosure while parading the suspects, said the 93-year-old was killed while in the den of an eight-man gang who had collected ₦10 million ransom from his family.

According to the force spokesperson, the suspected perpetrators were arrested following operations by the police intelligence response unit and other investigators.

He alleged that the crime was masterminded by one of the suspects, who mobilised others to execute the act.

“Within the last 30 days, the police were able to make tremendous progress that led to the arrest of the eight key suspects that played major roles in the kidnap and murder of the ex-governor’s father,” he said.

“All the suspects, except very few of them, are from the same village in Bokkos Local Government Area with the murdered victim.

“This perhaps explained why they took the very wicked and costly decision of murdering the old man.”

During his confession, Jethron Nguyen, the mastermind of the plot, said he had to hire 10 others including some Fulani herders to successfully abduct the old man from his home.

He also ensured that the victim was kept in their custody for 10 days before giving the order for his murder.

According to him, Pa Dariye was abducted based on the fact that his son, Joshua had been a governor and senator but never helped his people.

Investigations revealed that all the suspects were from the same place as Pa Dariye, thereby, fueling talks that most crimes of this nature are often carried out by people familiar with the victims.

The eight members of the syndicate arrested include Jethron Ngusen (57 years), from Horop village (who is the mastermind); Sunday Ibrahim, (35 years), from Horop village; Titus Ezikiel (33 years), from Horop; Ya’u Saidu aka Ya’u Kaban (40 years), from Kaban village and Dauda Isah (38 years), from Horop village.

Others are Mangut Shumuwar (30 years), from Horop village; Henry Amos (35 years), from Horop village; all in Mushere district of Bokkos.
