The former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose on Friday said that President Muhammadu Buhari should be on his way to Baga north east, Nigeria where Boko Haram insurgents struck two days ago instead of heading to Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital to flag off his 2019 presidential campaign rally.
In a tweet on Friday, Fayose, a vocal critic of the president from his days as governor said it was more important for the President Buhari pay more attention to developments in the north-east than to focus on his reelection.
Fayose tweeted.“My heart goes to our gallant soldiers and the civilian residents in Baga, Borno State. May the Almighty Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) preserve their lives. In a moment like this, methinks the President of Nigeria should be heading towards Baga and not Uyo for political campaign.”
Boko Haram insurgents attacked Baga two days ago and reportedly hoisted its flag in the town after overrunning a military base, a report that has since been denied by the military.
