Abia House Of Assembly Speaker Impeached

Hon Martins Azubuike,the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, has been impeached. Azubuike, was impeached on Thursday afternoon after 20 of the 24 member house voted against his leadership of the house. They accused him of highhandedness.

The house voted in a new Speaker in the person of Honourable Kennedy Njoku. He has since been sworn in.

Trouble began for the former Speaker after all the lawmakers arrived at the Assembly complex earlier in the day and words filtered in that there was plan by the powers that be in the state to dethrone the speaker. There was an unusual presence of armed policemen in the premises of the Assembly and efforts by the rattled speaker the stem the tides of event was fruitless.

Details of the intrigues that lead to the removal of the speaker is still hazy as the time of filling this report but sources within the Abia house of Assembly informed Alabingo.com that the accusation of highhandedness levelled against Hon Azubuike was just a smokescreen.

We hope to reveal in our subsequent report the real reason for the removal of the speaker.
