Sessan Joseph || The governor of Ekiti state, Otunba Ayodele Fayose, got a bitter pill from Lagosians, recently when he was booed at the Computer Village Ikeja while trying to patronize some road side hawkers in computer accessories and other Items.
The governor who was with his entourage, got down from his official car, with his security men to purchase some items from the hawkers near the Juli Pharmacy but the people clustering around largely ignored him. As if that was not enough, he also tried to patronize a nut seller, it was at this stage that those who could recognize him, surge forward to catch a glimpse of him, and within seconds the news went round that the governor was around with his style in Ekiti of going to the local markets to purchase goods.
Initially, the crowd that surged to watch as he tried to purchase some items did not react but the high-handedness of one the security men in his convoy angered some of the youths around who started to boo him. He was called names and when he realized that the atmosphere was unfriendly he quickly ran into his official jeep and left the scene with his convoy.
This reporter who witnessed the whole scene later spoke to some of the youths and they said that Lagos is not Ekiti, and that he should return to Ekiti for his showmanship.
One of them said, ‘’He felt that Lagos is like Ekiti where people would praise him for buying things on the road. He also think we are going to cluster around him so that he would start distributing money but failed to realize that this is Lagos and not Ekiti’’
A woman who was standing very close to where he wanted to buy nut , said, ‘’don’t mind the man, he only wanted to test his popularity because of his presidential ambition. To me I think if he received a rousing ovation at the spot and people clustered round him, he would feel very proud and he could start using the clip in the social media that Lagosians have accepted him’’
According to an elderly man, who claimed to come from Ikole Ekiti,’’this is what Fayose enjoy most, I like the way the people treated him because if he was well received, the next day when he gets to Ekiti he would use that to show off’’
One Mrs. Linda James told this reporter that, the man is not serious, he thinks people in Lagos are like the people in Ekiti who are always carried away with his Charley boy’s show. Fayose is a smart guy and you can see the way he ran into his Jeep when he realized that no one gave him attention. He is not BUSY IN Ekiti if he is busy he won’t come to Lagos to come and show off. The woman asked how many times you have seen Aour Governor here in Lagos to engage in that kind of thing. Governor Ambode is always busy and he has no time for that kind of show off. He should go to his state to work’’
