The Lagos State Police Command is investigating a domestic crime involving a housemaid who stole her boss’ $10,000 kept in his room at a Gbagada residence.
The housemaid, identified as Blessing Paul, has been arrested and is helping police uncover the details of the crime as she allegedly involved other persons to carry out the crime.
Blessing Paul reportedly used a knife to break into her boss’ bedroom while he was away from home on official assignment after which she stole the money from where it was kept. She invited the securityman of the house, identified as Daniel, who in turn gave it to another securityman within the neighbourhood.
The other security man, identified as Amos, took the money to a Bureau de Change operator, who exchanged the sum at the rate of N86 per dollar, thereby shortchanging the securitymen by an estimated N2 million.
The Bureau de Change operator, who is also being interrogated by the police, claimed he only received $5,000 from Amos and not $10,000.
ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, the Police Spokesman, said that the BDC operator confessed to giving N870,000 to Amos in exchange for $5,000. N400,000 has been recovered by the police from the maid’s account out of the N870,000 they received from the BDC operator.
“We also found N400,000 in the maid’s bank account but we are following court’s procedure to seize the money. The BDC operator was allegedly given $10,000 but he claimed he only received $5,000.
“Investigation revealed that money and valuables have been missing in the house, but the woman didn’t suspect the maid until the theft of foreign currency last week.”
