“You have no moral right to accuse people of corruption” – Fayose blasts Obasanjo

Ayodele Fayose, Ekiti State Governor, has accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of playing a ‘holier than thou’ attitude regarding the issue of corruption despite being grossly corrupt.

Fayose’s salvo was in reaction to Obasanjo’s stance, particularly a recent statement by the former president that African leaders should do more to expose corrupt officials and a warning that Mohammed Adoke, former Attorney General of Nigeria should desist from involving his name in a controversial $1.09bn Malabu Oil deal.

In a statement released through Mr. Lere Olayinka, Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the Ekiti State Governor, Fayose called on Obasanjo to tell Nigerians how he acquired his wealth.

Describing Obasanjo as a hypocrite, Fayose said the former president is the father of modern day corruption in Nigeria, while alleging that the Presidential Library he built during his tenure as Nigeria’s president was a fraudulent scheme. He also asked Obasanjo to refund the N10 million which he, Fayose, was coerced into donating to the library project.

“Other Nigerians who left offices as President are still relevant to their people, but can the same be said about Obasanjo? Was he useful to the Yoruba race as President and now as a former President? The bad state that he left major roads linking the South-West to other zones in Nigeria, especially the Lagos-Ibadan expressway remains a pointer to this. Yet, he goes about postulating as if he is the only honest Nigerian who can make things right in the country.”
