Again, Suicide bomber attacks University of Maiduguri

The University of Maiduguri, Bornu State, North East Nigeria witnessed another bomb attack Saturday.

A male suicide bomber blew himself up while lurking around the University perimeter fence waiting for students to attack. This is the second suicide attack in the ivory tower in the last 48 hours.

The Borno State police commissioner, Damian Chukwu, said the incident happened at about 10 a.m.

He said the bomber hid near the university’s Children Secondary School, and detonated the bomb, killing himself, when he sighted a security man coming in his direction.

The spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abdulkadir Ibrahim also confirmed the attack.

He said that the bomber was waiting for the right opportunity to detonate the bomb among students gathering when the bomb went off.

He said, “Today, May 20, at some minutes past 10 am, one male adult suicide bomber hid in the bush within university community surrounding, supposedly trying to gain access into university where students are gathering.”

“Unfortunately for him the IED exploded and killed him. No casualty was recorded. The corpse was deposited at Borno specialist hospital.”

The University of Maiduguri has become a target of the insurgent group lately. The situation has highthened tension inside the campus as students and lecturesr have expressed concern over their safety
